Shopify B2B: How to Sell Wholesale on Shopify and Shopify Plus (2026)

What Shopify B2B includes on every plan, what Shopify Plus adds, the limits to check, and how to set up or migrate a wholesale business.

Wholesale buyers expect the same easy online ordering they get as consumers, plus their own prices, payment terms and reorder tools. Shopify now handles all of this natively, on every main plan, in the same store as your retail customers. This guide explains what Shopify B2B includes, what Shopify Plus adds, and how to set up and migrate a wholesale business.

The short answer: Shopify B2B is available on the Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus plans. Every one includes company accounts, net payment terms, quantity rules, volume pricing and up to 3 B2B catalogs. Shopify Plus adds unlimited catalogs assigned directly to each company, deposits, partial payments and separate checkout flows for wholesale and retail.

How Shopify B2B works

Shopify B2B is built into the admin, not added by an app. It's organized around a few building blocks:

  • Companies: each wholesale customer is a company, with one or more locations, such as head office and each store or warehouse.
  • Buyers: people who order for a company location, with permissions set per location.
  • Catalogs: the products and prices a company can see, including fixed prices and percentage discounts.
  • Payment terms: net terms, such as net 30, with payment reminders.
  • Quantity rules and price breaks: minimums, maximums, order increments and volume pricing.

B2B and retail customers can share one store. A wholesale buyer signs in and sees their own catalog, prices and payment terms.

When you need Shopify Plus for B2B

  • Each customer has its own price list. With 3 catalogs on the standard plans, you're limited to a few price tiers. Plus gives every company its own catalog if needed.
  • You take deposits or part-payments on large or made-to-order wholesale orders.
  • You want separate wholesale and retail checkouts in one store. Plus lets you run different checkout flows for B2B and direct-to-consumer.
  • You sell wholesale in several countries, or run a separate wholesale store as one of Plus's expansion stores.

If you have a handful of price tiers, such as retail, wholesale and distributor, the standard plans may be enough. See Shopify vs Shopify Plus for the wider comparison.

Things to check before you start

Shopify lists these requirements and limitations (Shopify Help Center):

  • Customer accounts: B2B uses Shopify's current customer accounts, which are passwordless. Legacy customer accounts can't be used for B2B.
  • Express checkouts: Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Amazon Pay aren't available for B2B orders.
  • Apps: some third-party apps don't support B2B. Check each one with its developer.
  • Order size: an order can have up to 500 line items.
  • Linked buyers: a buyer must be linked to a company location when ordering, or retail prices apply.

Setting up B2B, step by step

  1. Plan your price structure. Decide how many price tiers or customer-specific catalogs you need. This decides whether the standard plans are enough.
  2. Create companies and locations. Import them in bulk with each location's addresses, tax details and payment terms.
  3. Add buyers to each location and set what they can do.
  4. Build catalogs with the right products, prices, quantity rules and price breaks.
  5. Set payment options: net terms, vaulted cards, and deposits on Plus.
  6. Choose a storefront. Use your existing theme with B2B features, or Shopify's free Trade theme built for wholesale.
  7. Connect your ERP if you have one, so prices, stock, orders and invoices stay in sync. See our Shopify NetSuite integration guide.
  8. Test as a buyer before inviting customers: sign in, check prices, place an order on terms and reorder.

Moving a wholesale business to Shopify

If you're coming from Magento, BigCommerce, a custom portal or a separate wholesale app, plan the B2B data carefully:

  • Customer groups and tier prices become companies, locations and catalogs.
  • Customer-specific prices need direct catalogs on Plus, or grouping into tiers on the standard plans.
  • Credit limits and terms map to Shopify payment terms; credit control usually stays in your ERP.
  • Buyers sign in with a one-time code sent to their email, so there are no passwords to reset. See migrating customer accounts to Shopify.
