Salesforce Commerce Cloud to Shopify Migration Cost: A 2026 Guide

What it costs to move from Salesforce Commerce Cloud to Shopify Plus: SFCC license costs, Shopify Plus fees, migration price ranges, timelines and how to build the business case.

Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC) is built for large brands, and so is its bill. When enterprise teams start looking at Shopify Plus, the first question is usually what the move would cost — and whether the savings justify it. This guide breaks down both sides, using Salesforce's and Shopify's own pages where they publish figures and clearly labeled estimates where they don't.

The short answer: an SFCC to Shopify Plus migration is an enterprise project. Published agency ranges start in the low six figures and can pass $1 million for large headless or multi-entity builds. In return, you swap a license fee that rises with your revenue for Shopify Plus's fixed fee — from $2,300 a month on a 3-year term — plus a variable fee for some high-volume brands.

What SFCC costs today

Salesforce lists every B2C Commerce edition — Growth, Plus and Premium — as "Contact for pricing" on its pricing page. It doesn't publish license rates. The one figure it does publish: the Premier Success Plan, its higher support tier, costs 30% of net license fees.

What's widely understood is the model: SFCC license fees are usually tied to gross merchandise value (GMV) — a share of the sales that go through the platform. Implementation partners commonly estimate that share at roughly 1–3% of GMV, depending on edition and negotiation (Swell's summary of published estimates). Treat these as estimates; your contract is the real number.

That model is why costs climb as you grow:

Annual online revenue License at 1% of GMV License at 2% of GMV
$10 million $100,000 $200,000
$25 million $250,000 $500,000
$50 million $500,000 $1,000,000

Illustrative arithmetic only, before support plans, implementation, hosting of related services or development.

On top of the license, SFCC brands typically pay for specialist developers or an agency retainer to make changes, release management, and integrations maintained in cartridges.

What Shopify Plus costs instead

Shopify publishes its Plus pricing (Shopify Help Center):

Term Monthly Per year
3-year term $2,300 $27,600
1-year term $2,500 $30,000

Higher-volume businesses may be offered a variable platform fee based on revenue and business model instead; Shopify doesn't publish that rate, so get it in your quote and model it next to your SFCC contract. For the full breakdown, see Shopify Plus pricing explained.

For Australian brands, Shopify lists Plus from A$3,700 a month on a 3-year term or A$4,000 on a 1-year term (Shopify Help Center).

Hosting, checkout, security and platform upgrades are included. Apps, theme work and integrations are extra.

What the migration itself costs

SFCC migrations cost more than smaller replatforms because the stores are bigger: multiple sites and locales, large catalogs, complex promotions, an order management system (OMS), ERP and PIM integrations, and years of customization in cartridges.

Published ranges vary widely, mainly with how the new storefront is built:

  • Native Shopify Plus build (Shopify theme, no separate front end): the lower end of the range. Agencies that specialize in SFCC moves quote from roughly €150,000 for this kind of project (Ask Phill).
  • Headless build (custom front end, often with a separate CMS): more expensive, commonly several hundred thousand.
  • Multi-entity enterprise builds (many brands or legal entities, 50,000+ SKUs): can pass €1 million.

Across all platforms, enterprise and B2B replatforms to Shopify are often quoted from about $60,000 to $150,000 and up (Ecommerce Partners). Simpler SFCC stores moving to a native Shopify theme can sit near that end; complex headless programs sit far above it.

What drives the price

  1. Native or headless. A native Shopify theme is faster and cheaper to build and run. Headless gives more design freedom at a higher build and maintenance cost.
  2. Number of sites, brands and locales. Each maps to Shopify Markets or an expansion store, with its own content, pricing and redirects.
  3. Cartridges and integrations. OMS, ERP, PIM, tax, search, reviews and payments each need rebuilding, replacing with an app, or reconnecting.
  4. Promotions. Complex SFCC promotion rules are rebuilt with Shopify discounts and Shopify Functions.
  5. Data volume. Customers, order history and large variation catalogs need careful mapping and test runs.
  6. SEO across locales. Every indexed URL, in every site and language, needs a redirect — plus correct hreflang.

How long it takes

Enterprise migrations we run typically take 3–6 months from audit to launch. Headless and multi-entity programs often take longer — 6–12 months is common in published agency timelines. Phasing the launch by market or brand is a common way to reduce risk.

Where the savings come from

  • A fixed platform fee. On SFCC, the license grows with every sale. On Shopify Plus, the starting fee is fixed (or a negotiated variable fee for high-volume brands).
  • Fewer specialist developers. Merchandisers and marketers change pages, sections and promotions in Shopify themselves, so fewer changes wait for a release.
  • No upgrade projects. Shopify ships new features and security updates continuously.
  • Included checkout. Shopify Checkout and Shop Pay replace a custom-built checkout you'd otherwise maintain.

The payback period depends on your GMV, your SFCC contract and how you build on Shopify. Brands with high revenue and a GMV-based license usually see the clearest case; brands deep in the wider Salesforce ecosystem (Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Data Cloud) should factor in reconnecting those tools.

When SFCC may still be the better fit

  • You rely heavily on other Salesforce clouds and value one vendor for all of them.
  • You run dozens of sites with very different storefront logic.
  • Your SFCC contract has years left and the exit cost outweighs the savings for now.

How to build the business case

  1. Pull your real SFCC costs: license and success plan, agency or developer spend, hosting of related services, and integration maintenance.
  2. Get a Shopify Plus quote, including the variable platform fee if you're high volume.
  3. Decide native or headless early — it changes cost and timeline more than anything else.
  4. List every cartridge and integration, and mark each one as replaced by Shopify, replaced by an app, or rebuilt.
  5. Model three years, not one: migration cost plus running costs on each platform.
