Shopify Plus Pricing in the UK (2026): Costs in GBP, Card Fees and VAT

What Shopify Plus costs in the UK in pounds, how card fees compare with Advanced, when the upgrade pays for itself, and how VAT and payments are set up.

Shopify Plus is Shopify's enterprise plan, and for UK brands the first question is what it costs in pounds. Shopify publishes a headline GBP price, but the real cost also depends on card fees, apps, the build and how you handle VAT. This guide sets out the numbers from Shopify's and HMRC's own pages, and shows when the upgrade pays for itself.

The short answer: Shopify lists Plus in the UK at £1,800 a month on a 3-year term or £1,950 a month on a 1-year term, which is £21,600 to £23,400 a year. Higher-volume brands may be offered a variable, revenue-based fee instead. Card processing, apps, your theme and any agency work are on top. For most UK brands, Plus pays for itself through B2B, checkout customisation or expansion stores rather than lower card fees alone.

1-year term £1,950 £23,400
3-year term £1,800 £21,600

The variable platform fee. Shopify says that "for more complex, higher-volume businesses, there might be a variable platform fee based on your revenue", and that it differs for B2B and direct-to-consumer businesses. Shopify doesn't publish the rate or the revenue level where it starts. If you're a high-volume brand, ask for it early so you can model your true annual cost.

How Plus compares with the other UK plans

Plan Billed monthly Billed yearly
Basic £25/month £19/month
Grow £65/month £49/month
Advanced £344/month £259/month
Shopify Plus From £1,950/month (1-year term) From £1,800/month (3-year term)

Standard plan prices from Shopify UK pricing, shown excluding applicable tax.

Moving from Advanced to Plus adds roughly £17,500 to £20,300 a year in platform fees, depending on the billing terms you compare. So the useful question isn't "can we afford Plus?" but "what will Plus let us do that's worth more than that?"

Card fees and the break-even point

Plus merchants pay lower Shopify Payments rates and a lower fee when they use a third-party payment provider. These are the UK rates as reported by DashVue (checked August 2026):

Plan UK online card Amex and international Third-party provider fee
Basic 2% + 25p 3.1% + 25p 2%
Grow 1.7% + 25p 2.7% + 25p 1%
Advanced 1.5% + 25p 2.5% + 25p 0.6%
Plus From 1.3% + 25p Set in your quote 0.2%

Comparing Plus on a 3-year term (£21,600 a year) with Advanced billed yearly (£3,108) gives a gap of £18,492 a year:

  • On Shopify Payments, saving 0.2% on UK card sales covers that gap at about £9.2 million a year, or roughly £770,000 a month in online card sales.
  • With a third-party provider such as Adyen, saving 0.4% covers it at about £4.6 million a year, or roughly £385,000 a month.

Below those levels, card savings alone won't pay for Plus; the features have to. Large brands can often negotiate lower Plus card rates, which brings the break-even point down. For a full feature comparison, see Shopify vs Shopify Plus.

What the Plus price includes

According to Shopify's Help Center, Plus adds:

  • Checkout customisation: app extensions in the information, shipping and payment steps of checkout.
  • Custom apps with Shopify Functions for your own discount, delivery, payment and validation rules.
  • Unlimited B2B catalogues and B2B markets, for trade customers with their own prices. See our Shopify B2B guide.
  • Up to 9 expansion stores, for example a separate EU, US or wholesale store.
  • Unlimited staff accounts and custom user groups.
  • Up to 25 headless storefronts and unlimited staging stores.
  • POS Pro for the first 20 locations, and up to 200 locations in total.
  • 24/7 priority support, email suppression, extra API resources and Launchpad for scheduled sales.

VAT and your Shopify store

VAT affects how you set up the store, not the Plus price itself.

  • When you must register: UK businesses must register once taxable turnover goes over £90,000 in the last 12 months. Businesses based outside the UK must register regardless of turnover if they sell goods to the UK (GOV.UK: Register for VAT).
  • Setting it up in Shopify: you add your VAT registration under Settings > Taxes and duties, and choose whether prices include tax and whether VAT applies to shipping. New UK stores use Shopify Tax or manual settings; Shopify's older Basic Tax is only available to stores already collecting UK tax before 13 May 2026 (Shopify Help Center).
  • Selling to businesses: for B2B, you can show a company VAT number field at checkout and turn on VAT invoices.

UK shoppers expect VAT-inclusive prices. Tax rules depend on your business, so we confirm the settings with your accountant before launch.

Payments UK shoppers expect

  • Shop Pay Instalments launched for UK Shopify merchants in December 2025, powered by Affirm, letting shoppers split eligible purchases into monthly payments (Affirm).
  • Klarna and Clearpay are also widely used in the UK and connect to Shopify through their own integrations.
  • On Plus, you can show or hide payment methods with your own checkout rules, for example hiding pay-later options for wholesale orders.

Other costs to budget for

  • Apps: reviews, subscriptions, loyalty, search and similar apps are billed by their developers.
  • Theme and development: your theme build, custom apps and integrations such as Sage, Xero, NetSuite or Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Getting onto Plus: upgrading an existing Shopify store is a plan change plus set-up work; moving from Magento, WooCommerce or another platform is a migration project. Our packages and pricing page shows starting prices, and we quote UK clients in GBP.

When Shopify Plus is worth it

Plus tends to make sense for UK brands when one or more of these is true:

  1. You sell wholesale and each trade customer needs their own catalogue, prices or payment terms.
  2. You need checkout changes that drive revenue, such as custom fields, upsells, delivery rules or B2B payment terms.
  3. You sell into the EU, Ireland or the US and want separate expansion stores. See selling internationally with Shopify Markets.
  4. Your team is large and needs unlimited staff accounts and custom permissions.
  5. You're replatforming from Magento and need enterprise features from day one. See Magento 2 end of support.

If none of these apply yet, Advanced is usually the better value, and you can upgrade later without rebuilding the store.
